Show, Don’t Tell: Why Testers Need a Demo Reel

As both a QA engineer and actor, I’ve seen the power of visibility firsthand.

In entertainment, demo reels are non-negotiable. If you want to get cast, you don’t just say you can act, you show that you can.

A great reel gives decision makers a glimpse into your process, your presence, and your command of your craft.

Now let me ask this: Why isn’t the same true for software testers?

In tech, particularly in QA, much of our value is created quietly. We reduce risk, improve user trust, document failure, and help developers move faster. But most of that goes unseen unless you’re already in the room. As roles shift and budgets tighten, visibility is no longer a luxury; it’s a necessity for survival.

This series is part reel, part educational series, part call to action. Each short video (2–4 minutes) walks you through an automation example, featuring real apps, real endpoints, and real insights.

Whether I’m using Playwright to verify web app flows or Postman to test AI model responses, the goal is to bridge the gap between the craft and the outcome.

I’ll also be using this as a bridge between my roles in engineering leadership and creative work, because, as in filmmaking, quality isn’t just about correctness.

It’s about clarity, empathy, and communication.
